Drew Central School District Receives 21st CCLC Grant
MONTICELLO, AR – Drew Central Middle School was recently awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant to provide After School programs for students and their families. The 21st CCLC program is administered by the Arkansas Department of Education and funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The grant will provide $660,000 for After School programs in our community over a five year period.
The program will focus on improving literacy, science, engineering, technology, and math skills. Program activities will be project-based and student-led to foster the higher-order thinking skills students need to master the rigorous standards set forth by the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
“Quality After School programs boost student achievement in the classroom as well as on standardized tests. We are thrilled to continue to offer the After School program at Drew Central Middle School to assist students in reaching their full academic potential”, states Gayle Brown, program director. The Boys & Girls Club of Drew County, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Monticello Adult Education, UAM Athletics, Melissa Cason – Journalist as well as the AmeriCorps are local collaborative partners who will provide services to students and their families through this program.
The After School program will operate Monday through Thursday from 7:00-7:45 a.m and 3:00-6:00 p.m.
, beginning on September 2nd . Registration forms will be available during Open House in August. Transportation services are available.
